Indoor Decorating Tips For The Holidays
Few things help put people in a holiday spirit more than decorating their home. There are various ways of decorating so it is easy to find one that fits your lifestyle. Here are a few indoor decorating tips to help you create the perfect holiday mood.
Candles are a great way to add holiday cheer. There are many different styles, sizes and scents to choose from. There are even battery powered ones that are safer to use, especially if you have children or pets. Putting candles in groupings looks nice as well. If you put candles in your windows, be sure to use the battery powered variety so the curtains aren’t in danger of catching on fire.
Holiday scents can add an extra air of excitement. (Pardon the pun.) Adding holiday scents isn’t as difficult as you may think. One way is with candles. The other is with spices and outdoor items, such as evergreens. Try adding a few drops of peppermint extract on cotton balls, which are hidden in decorative containers. Buy cinnamon sticks, tie a ribbon around a few and leave them on a table as part of the decorations. Consider keeping a simmer pot on your stove with your favorite scent in it. Here are a few other sents you might enjoy: bayberry, cedar, orange, clove, ginger, nutmeg, vanilla, and let’s not forget chocolate!
Wreaths look nice in any home. When choosing a wreath, you need to decide whether real or artificial greens will work best for you. Real ones look nicer but artificial lasts longer. It’s easy to create your own wreath out of all kinds of things. Pinecone wreaths look nice, especially if you add ribbons and ornaments to them. Small lights can be added to a wreath to create an even more detailed and eye-catching decoration.
Garland is a simple accent to add and is relatively inexpensive. It can be draped over entertainment center, tacked up where the ceiling and wall meet, hung around the window sills and door frames, coiled around holiday baskets or placed anywhere you think it might look nice. Consider using small hooks, nails, or thumbtacks to keep your garland in place. If you use artificial garland, you may want to attach thread loops to the garland to make decorating easier next year.
Strings of lights can make an eye-catching or soft display. Depending on the lights size and color, you can either make a dramatic or subtle display. Smaller lights work better indoors because they don’t overpower the rest of the decorations. Icicle lights are very popular and look nice draped in windows. From this position, they can be enjoyed indoors as well as from an outside view.
Deciding on a tree is probably the most important decision. Many people love a live tree but you have to consider the constant watering it will need, as well as the clean up. There are many artificial trees that look almost as nice as a real one. The ones that come with lights already attached are very appealing, especially for those who hate spending hours untangling lights. Try to choose a tree that fits the space well. Too big and it overpowers the room, too small and it gets lost.
No matter how you choose to decorate encourage everyone get involved, it’s half the fun. To make decorating even more fun, invite a few friends and hold an informal holiday decorating party. You can even share these indoor decorating tips for the holidays to help them get in the holiday spirit.
