Doughnut Holes Recipe For Everyday Or Holidays

From Kit Singleton

donut-holes-dessert-recipeFinally, a good doughnut holes recipe to serve for everyday or holiday events. As a child, I loved doughnut holes and couldn’t wait to get them at the fair each year. Luckily, I don’t have to wait to get them and neither do you. Here is the yummy basic recipe I use. Try it yourself to whip up a batch or three and let me know what you think.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons 1% low-fat milk
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
granulated sugar (optional)
cinnamon sugar (optional)
confectioners’ sugar (optional)

Instructions:

Combine the oil, egg and milk. In a separate bowl combine sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Mix well. Add the egg mixture to the dry and stir well. In a deep fryer or deep pan, heat oil to 375 F. Drop mixture by the spoonful and fry until golden brown.

Remove from oil, draining well on paper towels. While still damp from frying, roll hot doughnut holes in the granulated sugar, confectioner’s sugar, or you may simply leave them plain. Makes 1 dozen donut holes, depending on the size of the spoon used.

Note: These usually turn themselves as one side gets done, but you may need to turn them manually. Keep a close eye on the color to decide when or if to turn them.

This doughnut hole recipe is great for everyday or holiday events. Many people like to eat them with coffee or tea as an everyday snack. They can also be spruced up to serve during holidays like Christmas and Halloween. Either way, they are a quick and delicious snack to add to your list of favorites.
