Halloween Creepy Crawly Spider Craft

From Kit Singleton

I do NOT like spiders! The kids do like them…at least the non-living kind. To satisfy their need to gross me out, make me cringe, or squeal, we make Halloween creepy crawly spider crafts. Here’s how:

Supplies:

  • Black construction paper (other colors optional)
  • Cotton balls or cotton stuffing
  • Black pipe cleaners
  • Small bowl or saucer
  • Scissors
  • Stapler and staples
  • Craft supplies, stickers, paint pens, glue, etc. (optional)

Directions:

Using black construction paper, trace around a small bowl or saucer. Cut out two circles per spider. Place the two circles on top of each other. Staple or glue the edges together, leaving about a 3-inch wide section open. Fill the “body” with cotton balls and close the remaining opening. Insert 4 pipe cleaners on each side. Bend pipe cleaners to make the “legs” of the spider.
[idea]You may also want to:

  • Use sturdy paper plates instead of construction paper.
  • Use a needle point needle (or ice pick) to put 4 holes on each side of the body. Thread the pipe cleaners half way through the hole and twist to make sturdy legs.
  • Look up different kinds of spiders on the internet, discuss the differences, and create similar looking critters.

Just use your imagination to have loads of fun! Be sure to make faces, squeal or groan at the appropriate times, Mom.[/idea]
