Childhood Memories: Halloween Costumes

Published by Kit S>

When I was little, Mom didn’t do a lot of holiday decorating. Back then, decorating was usually reserved for Christmas and sometimes Thanksgiving. I was about the only decoration we had at Halloween.

At Halloween, I used to dress up and Mom would cart me around to the houses of family friends, where I would show off my costume and get candy. The first time I really remember Halloween, I was about four years old. I wore a fairy or Tinkerbell costume, similar to the one below. I think the reason I remember the costume so well was because after we did the trick-or-treat deal, I was allowed to play dress up with the costume. I can still remember those plastic wings and how much fun I had!

There were a few other costumes I remember almost as well. Once I went as Cinderella. I liked playing with the mask. My most favorite costume of all time was one my grandmother made for me. Grandmother sewed and she took time to make me a very simple “gypsy” skirt. The costume consisted of a full skirt, simple shirt, and loads of bangles and beads. Again, after the “candy run”, I remember using the outfit in my dress up wardrobe. It was my last costume and used in play for years.

I thought this was a really sweet version of the Tinkerbell costume I wore. Go ahead and give your little girl a memory that lasts a life time.
